An original painting inspired by a personal experience of the sacred Shringārī Pūjā of Baba Vaidyanath.
This painting is a deeply personal and original visualisation of Shri Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga, as witnessed through the sacred tradition of Shringārī Pūjā at Baba Baidyanath Dham. Rather than depicting the Jyotirlinga as an abstract form, the painting imagines Baba Vaidyanath in His divine, manifested form, lovingly adorned and worshipped by the temple’s pujaris and pandas.
Every element of the composition is imagined to evoke that intimate moment of seva—when the Lord is bathed, adorned, decorated, and offered worship with flowers, ornaments, sacred वस्त्र and devotion. The official Baidyanath Dham temple service itself describes Shringār Pūjā as the ritual of adorning the deity with beautiful clothes, jewellery, and flowers, symbolising divine beauty and grace. The inspiration for the painting comes from the Dvādaśa Jyotirlinga Stotram, traditionally attributed to Ādi Shankaracharya, which describes Vaidyanath:
पूर्वोत्तरे प्रज्वलिकानिधाने
सदा वसन्तं गिरिजासमेतम् ।
सुरासुराराधितपादपद्मं
श्रीवैद्यनाथं तमहं नमामि ॥
“In the north-eastern sacred abode of the divine flame, He eternally dwells together with Girijā; His lotus feet are worshipped by Devas and Asuras alike. To that Shri Vaidyanath, I bow.” (Stotrams)
The words “सुरासुराराधितपादपद्मम्”—whose lotus feet are worshipped by both Devas and Asuras—beautifully express the universal divinity of Baba Vaidyanath. The painting seeks to bring that very feeling into visual form: the Lord receiving the loving service of His devotees, surrounded by the sacred atmosphere of His ancient Dham.
